Nov 17: 'Banana war' may be over

An end is in sight for the longest-running trade dispute in the World Trade organisation's history. The FT has seen a draft settlement which would end EU tariffs on banana imports from countries in Latin America. The current practice helps former British and French colonies in the Caribbean, Pacific and Africa which have higher production costs, to compete with imports from countries like Ecuador and Honduras. As Peter Chapman, FT journalist and author of a book on the subject, tells Richard Edgar, the impact of a resolution to the dispute could be felt globally.
