MARIA BARTIROMO, CNBC: How the media can feed recession

Part 1 (recorded on Fri Mar 14th 2008): Maria Bartiromo, CNBC anchor, says, without doubt, bad financial news from the TV and other media 'begets bad sentiment'. 'We can talk ourselves into a recession,' she tells Gillian Tett, FT global markets editor. She says of course you can't fake the story of negative headlines on the economy and the markets, but when she talks to executives off the record she doesn't hear a stream of bad news, rather she hears a mixed story. She says the media needs to 'say it straight and bring both sides of the story.'
