The Swedish-American soprano’s debut solo album has two distinctions.

First, it was funded by a kickstarter campaign – a courageous step for any singer. Second, it reveals Sunnegardh to be as fearless vocally as she is commercially.

In extracts from Fidelio, Tannhäuser, Der fliegende Holländer and Salome, she strikes her top notes with thrilling power and accuracy.

Opera’s unhinged heroines clearly suit her better than the calmer waters of Strauss’s Four Last Songs, which are taken at an uncomfortably swift pace.
