Oxford and IBS in photo finish for case competition

Judges for the annual case competition run by the European Foundation of Management Development (EFMD) gave first prize jointly to two business schools, the Saïd school at Oxford and IBS Centre For Management Research, the Indian case-writing centre. Both cases dealt with health issues in emerging markets.
The Saïd case, mothers2mothers, describes a peer mentoring system set up by a South African non-profit organisation to prevent the spread of HIV/Aids through mother to child transmission. The case was written by two academic, Cynthia Schweer and Roger Strang and won the African Business Cases category.
IBS (not to be confused with ISB - the Indian School of Business) won the Inclusive Business Models category for its social enterprise case on WaterHealth International, from Irvine, California, on providing safe drinking water to consumers at the base of the pyramid. The case was authored by Hadiya Faheem and Debapratim Purkayastha.
Insead was the biggest winner with three awards in the Corporate Social Responsibility, Public Sector Innovations and Latin American Business Cases categories. ESMT, in Germany won two cases, and other categories were won by China Europe International Business School (Ceibs), IMD, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Lawrence Technological University, Maastricht University and Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School.
