Munich
Pop-up shops and restaurants usually spring up in disused warehouses in up-and-coming parts of town, but the latest pop-up in Munich has an altogether grander setting – the roof of the Mandarin Oriental hotel. The Alm restaurant is a wooden chalet, of the kind you would normally find in a ski resort, where waiters in Lederhosen will serve hearty Bavarian food. It is open until December 23.
Barbados
The Caribbean is set to get its first low-cost airline on December 1, with the launch of Redjet. Based in Barbados, its two planes will fly to Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Guyana, with fares from $9.99 one-way pre-tax. The addition of more inter-island routes could create a new means of Caribbean island-hopping.
London
A new heliski company is offering the chance to ski alongside some of Britain’s most famous skiers. Options include heliskiing trips to Sweden with Chemmy Alcott, the top British female downhill racer, or to Italy with former Olympian Graham Bell. Prices start at £3,857 for four days.
