Rexam, a FTSE 100 company, is one of the world’s largest producers of aluminium cans, supplying a quarter of the 280bn drink cans consumed globally each year.

FT correspondent Mark Wembridge takes a tour of one of the group’s plants, in Wakefield, near Leeds. He follows the journey of Rexam’s products from aluminium sheets into drink cans, through a process of trimming, washing, oven-drying and branding – all in one hour.
