Zombies plus pandemic plus huge budget plus Brad Pitt surely equals blockbuster gold? Sadly, all that glitters …can tarnish over time.
The opening scenes of World War Z are thrillingly pacy and promising: former UN investigator Pitt is driving in Philly with his family when suddenly disaster movie pandemonium descends, turning passers-by into deranged, teeth-gnashing zombies. But somehow over the course of two hours – during which Pitt is forced to leave his loved ones to look for an instantaneous world cure in, of all places, Wales – the life drains out of the whole thing.
