Pfizer profits tumble on diabetes drug flop

Pfizer, the world’s largest drugmaker, was forced to take a $2.8bn writedown after scrapping its highly-touted inhaled insulin drug, Exubera.

The move is the latest in a series of measures by chief executive Jeff Kindler to correct past mistakes and try to put the struggling US pharmaceuticals company back on track.
