Inflation returns to the high street

Retail sales fell unexpectedly last month, led by a decline in purchases of household goods, according to official data released on Thursday.

However, the same report showed that inflationary pressures on the high street were building, with prices rising for the first time since January 2002 and at their fastest pace in more than five years.
