Tony Hayward was chief executive of BP for three years, and until the Deepwater Horizon explosion on April 20 enjoyed a good reputation.

He stepped down on July 27, after BP reported one of the largest losses in British corporate history, losing $17bn after tax in the second quarter after a $32.2bn pre-tax provision to pay for cleaning up the spill and compensating its victims.

This interactive graphic charts the major events during his tenure as chief executive against BP’s share price.
