Philanthropist and entrepreneur Harry Halloran has given $10m to the Opus College of Business at the University of St Thomas in Minneapolis to support its programmes in corporate ethics and responsibility.
Mr Halloran is chairman and chief executive officer of the American Refining Group as well as the founder of Halloran Philanthropies, an organisation that supports efforts to enhance global business ethics, microfinance and community service.
“Harry Halloran’s generous gift reflects his deep concern for the ethical and social impact of corporations,” says Christopher Puto, dean of the Opus College of Business.
The donation will support the Self-Assessment and Improvement Process Institute and the Center for Ethical Business Cultures. Saip was created to help companies assess and enhance their ethical performance.
“Today’s corporations - small, midsize, large and multinationals - are increasingly interested in how they can be agents of positive social change,” says Mr Halloran.
“The Saip does a great job of helping organisations improve their contributions to all stakeholders and society.”
