“There’s a wild woman living inside of me, dying to be free,” Imelda May sings. The Irish singer frees her inner wild woman the traditional way – with a blast of old-school rock-and-roll, all rip-roaring riffs and twanging bass. Her third album wears its retro-style as proudly as a quiff, May essentially updating Wanda Jackson’s rockabilly-queen act, but she sings it like she means it: “Gypsy in Me” is a magnificently delivered piece of torchy melodrama.
