Andrew Ainslie. Dean of Simon Business School

The Simon school at the University of Rochester has appointed UCLA marketing professor Andrew Ainslie as its next dean. Prof Ainslie will take over from Mark Zupan on June 30.

Prof Ainslie grew up in Zimbabwe before studying for an undergraduate degree and MBA at the University of Cape Town. He received a PhD in marketing and statistics from Chicago Booth in 1998.

He has been senior associate dean for the full-time MBA programme at UCLA Anderson since 2010 but had a 10-year career in business before starting his academic career, starting as an electrical engineer. Joel Seligman, president of the University of Rochester, described Prof Ainslie as “an individual with a talent for leadership”.

Prof Ainslie emphasised that Simon was a leader in analytics, including in his own subject of marketing. “It [the Simon Business School] has been at the forefront of an analytic, rigorous approach to business from its inception and today the business community is just beginning to understand the importance of that approach.”
