Each one of the six performances captured on this 8-CD live set confirms bassist/composer William Parker as a contemporary giant of left-field jazz. His hum-along tunes, warm-and-woody tone and welcoming grooves are the perfect platform for lyrical improv with an earthy vibe.

The set’s core is his long-running quartet – drummer Hamid Drake following every nuance; trumpet and sax brittle and fly – with add-ons varying from US brass heavies to soulful vocals and the 8-piece Swiss AMR ensemble. Great to dip into.
