Overview: Inflation spooks financial markets

Inflation concerns returned to spook financial markets on Tuesday as the oil price hit a fresh high and investors digested strong German and US producer price data and comments from the vice-chairman of the Federal Reserve.

Equity markets in the US and Europe fell hard – helping to push government bond prices higher – while the dollar touched a three-week low against the euro. The US benchmark oil price, hit a fresh peak just shy of $130 a barrel.
