EU using ‘banned’ poultry cleaning

European poultry producers are using a chlorine-washing process on exported chicken, while the same cleaning method in the US has led to a de facto ban on American sales in the EU, the Financial Times has learned.

EU rules say chicken meat for domestic consumption must be cleaned in water of drinking quality, and US poultry meat is washed in a chlorine solution.
