Bursts of sunshine have broken out across Europe, according to the Financial Times’ economic weather map, although weak industrial production figures on Monday highlighted how clouds still hang over the outlook.

Prospects have brightened noticeably since August, when the map was last published, with northern Europe capturing the best of the light. A robust recovery in Germany and evidence of a clear turnaround in France have helped lift the performances of neighbouring countries.
