Bleak Bank of England outlook hits pound

Sterling had a volatile session against the dollar on Wednesday after US inflation data contrasted with the Bank of England’s hawkish projections for UK consumer prices.

A smaller than expected 0.2 per cent monthly rise in US core CPI in April appeared to give the Federal Reserve further room to make cuts in interest rates should the need arise to provide an additional stimulus to growth.
