FTSE hit by consumer spending fears

London equities slipped on Tuesday, as investors weighed further evidence of slower consumer spending in trading updates from two blue-chip companies.

The FTSE 100 ended 0.7 per cent lower at 5,364.1, a fall of 93 points.
