Aug 24: Japan's dispossessed

The party that emerges victorious in Japan's general election on August 30 will have to confront one pressing socioeconomic problem: a growing number of homeless and unemployed in the world's second largest economy. In this audio slideshow, Mure Dickie, FT Tokyo bureau chief, travels to western Japan to Osaka's Nishinari ward, one of the country's most notorious slums, to meet homeless people who are the face of those left behind and forgotten amid Japan's economic downturn.
