- In this withdrawal agreement and within this withdrawal agreement bill, there are provisions to make sure that we can reduce the need to go into the backstop. There are specific plans for what are being called alternative arrangements, which can help address some of the issues that we all know exist on the Northern Irish border. So I think it's important that people take an opportunity to reflect on what the best way forward might be.
I recognise that the whole issue of Europe excites understandably strong passions. But one of my concerns is that if people look at all of the options in front of us and we look at the two sort of poles of this argument, those who say let's stay in the European Union and those who say, let's leave without a deal, actually neither of them I think captures exactly where the British people want to be, which is out of the European Union, but with a good deal.
