From the West Midlands, Jerry Blackett, chief executive of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, makes a plea for certainty from the new UK government, and a focus on manufacturing and wealth creation even while the public deficit is being cut. Speaking to the FT’s Midlands correspondent Jonathan Guthrie, he discusses how businesses in the region are looking for early signs on corporation tax, and how he’s not pessimistic about a coalition government, given the success of coalitions locally.
