Several weeks have passed since Juan Guaido surprised Venezuela, and the rest of the world, by declaring himself interim president of the country. He did so on the basis of the constitution. He says last year's presidential election was a sham and that therefore Nicolas Maduro is not a legitimate leader.
The US and around 50 other countries agree with him. They recognise him as president. The next step in their attempt to unseat Mr Maduro is to bring humanitarian aid into Venezuela. The US and its allies say the time for talking is over.
And yet, even in the last few days reports have emerged the Washington administration is talking to the Maduro regime, including talks in New York. So when I met up with Juan Guaido, I asked him about those reports.
