As the UK steeled itself for another day of the flight bans that have stranded huge numbers of passengers around the world, attention turned to the grounds for the restrictions and how they might be lifted. Since the eruption of Iceland’s Eyjafjallajökull volcano, the National Air Traffic Services body has appeared to be the one legally responsible for closing Britain’s airspace.
