Jan 28: BSkyB beats market expectations

BSkyB is slashing the price of its high definition set-top TV box in a bid to take advantage of the "significant opportunity" emerging in HD, as it reported interim results ahead of expectations. Ben Fenton tells Daniel Garrahan that the results are impressive given that consumer spending is under pressure. The FT's chief media correpondent expects the broadcaster to continue to perform well at a time when people are more inclined to stay in than go out.
