Dec 17: Sharp increase in UK jobless
The number of people claiming unemployment benefit climbed to 1.07m last month, exceeding the one million mark for the first time since 2001. The rise of 75,700 in the number of people on the dole was the biggest monthly increase since 1991. Norma Cohen, economics correspondent, talks to Richard Edgar about what the sharp jobless rise tells us about the UK economy.
