Lex: Britain's £100bn bet on wind energy

Sixteen companies including many of Europe's leading energy groups have been awarded licences to develop wind farms off the coast of Britain, launching a huge expansion of the country's offshore wind industry. The £100bn investment programme, which would make the UK by far the world leader for offshore wind, is of a comparable scale to the opening of the North Sea to oil and gas production in the 1970s.
