JOSH DE LA MARE: Welcome to the World in 60 Seconds from First FT. Samsung Electronics has blamed its exploding Galaxy Note 7 handsets on the devices' batteries. Three month investigation by 700 researchers found that the batteries did not fit properly into the cell pouch, causing them to short circuit and overheat. The defective devices are expected to cause the smartphone maker more than $5 billion.
Donald Trump has kicked off his presidency with an attack on what he claims is a dishonest media. In an unprecedented briefing over the weekend, press secretary Sean Spicer, berated journalists were claiming the crowd at Mr Trump's inauguration was smaller than 8 years earlier when Barack Obama was sworn in. Officials accused the media of trying to de-legitimize the president.
And the Israeli government has approved the construction of more than 560 homes for settlers in occupied East Jerusalem. The approval had been delayed after a UN security resolution last month condemned Israeli settlements.
