Samsung Electronics, the flagship company of the country's largest chaebol, has seemed to drag Korea out of its slump all on its own. With a market capitalisation now one-seventh of the Kospi, that's not entirely surprising. Only Panasonic of Japan and Philips of the Netherlands get anywhere near Samsung's beta of 1.01 with its local benchmark, implying an almost perfect synthesis between the company and investors' views of the economy.
