Lex: Chinese banks

China's banks enjoy many distinctions, but capital strength is not among them. The regulator said banks need to formulate "medium-to-long-term plans" on replenishing capital; more thinly-capitalised banks may face quotas on new lending. Ben McLannahan analyses their capital strength.
