Apr 1: Bush backs Ukraine's Nato bid

Apr 1 11:36 - As expected, the US president offered his "solid" support for Ukraine's entry into Nato. The eastward expansion of the military alliance has divided Nato members due to fierce opposition from Moscow. President Bush is in the former Soviet republic for two days en route to his final Nato summit in Romania and a farewell heads-of-state meeting with Russia's Vladimir Putin. The alliance summit takes place in the Romanian capital. France and Germany are among members opposed to MAP, the Membership Action Plan that is the first step towards joining Nato for Ukraine and Georgia.
