Oct 20: Turkey's difficult path to EU entry

Martti Ahtisaari, former president of Finland and a Nobel Peace Prize winner, has chaired an independent commission on Turkey's EU accession. Mr Ahtisaari is optimistic about the negotiations picking up again in the future, but with both sides losing enthusiasm and public support in Turkey for EU entry falling from 70% to 30%, Quentin Peel, the FT's international affairs editor, argues that there is a long and difficult path to go before we get there.
