Chicago's Olympic bid receives the advocacy of Barack and Michelle Obama, US president and the first lady, in a potent mix of sport and politics. The 2016 contest has been declared too close to call by most Olympic observers though President Obama's presence has raised the anticipation of the October 2 decision. Chicagoans largely support the bid but, as in most cities competing for the games, fear bloated budgets will be absorbed by taxpayers.
