Clean, green comfort air
As climate change and the pandemic pose threats to humanity, groundbreaking technology in everyday household appliances makes a surprising difference in ensuring life’s good for generations to come.

Climate control in a home or office should be so perfectly adjusted that you forget it is there. As well as providing basic comfort, LG Electronics believes such solutions should also deliver clean air and efficient use of energy. With the threats of coronavirus and climate change, our futures may depend on it.

Since its founding more than 60 years ago, LG Electronics has designed and manufactured everything from labour-saving home appliances to advanced industrial control systems, all the while meeting its environmental and social responsibilities. The company remains committed to making the world a greener, healthier place through innovation.

LG’s HVAC and residential air conditioning solutions, for example, leverage the company’s proven expertise in AI, smart sensors and ionisation to be both eco-friendly and healthy. Can a simple air conditioner really promote sustainable living and personal wellbeing? Take a look at how six unique features deliver microbe-free air and energy optimisation — and see for yourself.

Clean air
for health
Millions of ions

The LG air conditioner emits an invisible cloud of 3 million ion clusters that reach every corner of a room, to neutralise harmful chemicals and pathogens as well as unpleasant odours. The Plasmaster™ ionizer+ surrounds harmful substances, then emits OH (or hydroxyl) radicals, known as “air detergents” because of their ability to decompose pollutants. The sanitisation removes more than 99 per cent of adhering microbes in less than an hour, making the LG residential air conditioning the ideal option in home environments and other indoor spaces where air quality is an utmost priority.

Five-step purification

One key challenge of air conditioning today is concern that air circulation might spread pathogens. LG’s unique, TÜV Rheinland-certified five-step air purification system instead provides impenetrable defenses, capturing more than 99 per cent of microbes and ultrafine particles. Step 1 is a pre-filter that traps the majority of impurities. Step 2 is an electrification stage that collects dust through electrostatic force. Step 3 is LG’s unique PM1.0 filter which traps the most hazardous PM1.0 particulate matter (microscopic particles with diameter less than 1 micrometer, or 0.001mm), including dust, bacteria and viruses. Step 4 is deodorisation that makes air as fresh as spring. Step 5 is the ionizer that inactivates bacteria and germs.

Superior ventilation

Pollution concentration in places such as office buildings can be 50 per cent higher than outdoors. LG’s Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) cycles out stale indoor air and invites in fresh, purified air – thanks to a unique heat exchanger that intelligently regulates positive and negative air pressure. Filters at each end of the heat exchanger ensure that the air moving in and out is cleansed of impurities. Antivirus coating on the heat exchanger keeps the mechanism free of viruses and bacteria. Meanwhile, additional high-efficiency filters block up to 90 per cent of micro-dust as small as 0.4 micrometer (0.0004 mm) in diameter.

Smart sensors

LG’s advanced smart sensors capabilities deploy AI and IoT to swiftly and automatically adjust temperatures to the desired setting, saving energy. Human Detection sensors adjust to ideal temperatures according to the number of people in a room, saving up to 54 per cent more energy when a space is empty. The Floor Temperature Sensor detects floor temperature and thereby regulates airflow to ensure the required temperature reaches all the way to the ground. Meanwhile, Smart Load Control measures outside temperatures and intelligently regulates room temperature based on ambient conditions, leading to energy optimisation.

Dual Vane versatility

LG’s Dual Vane Cassette features two blades that enable custom airflows for any space, from homes to restaurants to offices. The unique structure allows a wider 10º to 85º airflow angle compared to conventional single-vane systems with only 20º to 70º angles. It also enables a tighter airstream for longer reach without energy loss. Its six modes include power mode for shops; refresh mode for classrooms; indirect wind for hospitals; up-down swing for restaurants; smart mode for offices; direct wind for lobbies. Customized airflows for each scenario save energy by using just the power needed for optimized comfort.

Eco-friendly heart

The compressor is the “heart” of the air conditioner. It keeps homes cool by circulating refrigerant for the exchange process that absorbs heat from the home and pumps in cool air. LG’s pioneering R1 compressor optimises energy efficiency thanks to a unique hybrid scroll structure that demonstrates high stability and operating efficiency, delivering an eco-friendly solution. It maximises the effects of LG’s groundbreaking deployment of R32 refrigerant (the new golden standard in heat conveying liquid) that reduces global warming potential by 70 per cent compared to mainstream R410A refrigerant – which is currently being phased out through policies such as EU fluorinated gas regulation.

Ultimately, LG’s mission is to continue developing solutions that care, bringing smiles to homes and offices in a sustainable, eco-friendly world. A clean, climate-controlled environment not only keeps our loved ones and work colleagues comfortable, but also ensures they stay out of harm’s way. Through its commitment to innovation, LG is making everyday life safer, healthier and better for families, businesses and the environment — day in and day out.
