The line-up: Garden furniture

James Burleigh

James Burleigh's InsideOut table and bench set

The latest outdoor furniture brings a contemporary edge to the English country garden, writes Victoria Maw. Take James Burleigh’s InsideOut table and bench set, designed by Simon Pengelly. The table has stainless steel corner detailing and is made from a weather-resistant matt laminate used to build skateboard ramps. The inside panels of the table and benches come in a selection of colours. From £3,874 + VAT, www.jamesburleigh.co.uk

Thomas Heatherwick's spun chair

Thomas Heatherwick

Trust Thomas Heatherwick to come up with a unique take on garden furniture. More spinning top than seat, the “spun chair” has a symmetrical form and is made from moulded plastic. It works as a chair whichever way it is rotated. Heatherwick previously produced limited-edition metal examples for London’s Haunch of Venison gallery but the latest green and yellow plastic models are unique to The Conran Shop. £360, www.conranshop.co.uk

Matthew Hilton

Matthew Hilton’s new outdoor pieces for Case Furniture

More understated are British designer Matthew Hilton’s new outdoor pieces for Case Furniture, launched in Milan this year. The range includes a chair, bench and sleek sun lounger in powder -coated aluminium. The collection was named after Eos, the Greek goddess of dawn, and works in both traditional and modern spaces. Earlier pieces from the same collection furnished the VIP enclosures at last year’s Olympic Games. From £550, casefurniture.co.uk
