Tornado Alley’s climate snapshot

From Mr Anthony Robson.

Sir, In the description of Mitch Dobrowner’s dramatic “Bear’s Claw” photograph (Snapshot, Life and Arts, September 7), I believe the term “Tornado Valley” should have been “Tornado Alley”. The status of this area was underlined when, decades ago, US meteorologists revisited media reports of harm attributed to natural forces such as storms or earth tremors. Stories of damage patterns revealed that many had been due to tornadoes.

The most severe tornadoes are horrendous and inhabitants of this area are unfortunate to be in the forefront of mankind’s ongoing experiment with climate disturbance.
