The highly-ranked French school is to offer its courses via Coursera, a for-profit Mooc platform that currently partners with more than 80 universities internationally to deliver free higher education courses. The California-based platform currently offers more than 450 courses to five million users.
When HEC launches its first courses on Coursera in early 2014, it will join the small, but growing, contingent of European contributors to the platform’s portfolio of business Moocs. The school’s Spanish competitor, IE Business School, also collaborates with Coursera.
“This partnership with Coursera offers HEC an opportunity to open up our courses to people who might not usually have access to higher education, whether for practical or economic considerations,” says HEC’s dean, Bernard Ramanantsoa.
HEC’s foray into Moocs follows success on its iTunes U podcast platform. Since 2010, the school’s content has received more than two million downloads.
The Paris-based school’s two Coursera courses will cover European law and corporate finance, taught in English and French respectively.
