Brixton Village Market is one of London’s newest foodie hotspots and a ﬁtting location for this “Cheese and Meat Salon”. Although the focus at Cannon & Cannon is British artisan charcuterie, the cheese counter has a well-considered selection of about 20 British-only cheeses. Either take away your purchases or “build your own platter” of cheese and charcuterie to eat in with a glass of organic wine or a London-brewed beer. Look out for award-winning Welsh cheeses Hafod Cheddar and Perl Las, and ever-popular Rosary goat’s cheese.

This franchise of the French fromager, Androuet, brings a touch of Parisian chic to Spitalﬁelds Market. The cheeses are predominantly French (as one would expect) but a partnership with Paxton & Whitﬁeld means there is also a substantial British offering. Owner Alex Guarneri matures his cheeses to perfection in cellars underneath the market, before bringing them upstairs to line the shop walls. The adjoining restaurant, run by his brother Leo, provides an ideal pit stop for a glass of wine and a cheese board while you contemplate purchases.

KäseSwiss and Boerenkaas
Located in a railway arch in Bermondsey together with its sister company, Boerenkaas, KäseSwiss sells about 10 beautiful Swiss mountain cheeses, including Heublumen (which is coated in sweet hay from the hills of St Gallen) and Tomme Fleurette (soft and milky, and the youngest Swiss cheese sold in the UK) as well as the more familiar Gruyère and Emmental. Boerenkaas, meanwhile, sells some of the best Dutch farmhouse cheese in London, including aged Gouda and the incredible, award-winning Olde Remeker.

L’Art du Fromage
Any turophile is bound to be excited at the prospect of London’s only restaurant dedicated to cheese. The L’Art du Fromage menu includes two different types of fondue, a raclette and a tartiﬂette Savoyarde. For a real challenge, the fondue and raclette are available as “all you can eat”.
If you prefer a cheese board, owner Julien Ledogar will be on hand to help you choose from the extensive selection and advise on a complementary wine from an exclusively French list, which has been designed with cheese-pairing in mind.

The Cheese and Wine Company
Owner Steve Parker runs his business on three principles – taste, provenance and knowledge – all of which are evident when you visit The Cheese and Wine Company. Tasting is encouraged and there is a tasting table in the centre of the shop for anyone who visits. In one trip you can collect all you need for a cheese and wine evening, including stories about your purchases and their producers.
