It’s looking like Republicans’ health care plan is going to need a little TLC. Under its own terms, however, that might not be covered.
The plan pitched by Republican leaders in Congress and backed by Donald Trump was slammed from all corners on Tuesday, with conservatives labelling it Obamacare 2.0 and Democrats criticising the loss of coverage it would entail for millions of Americans. Analyses indicated the plan would cost more and cover fewer people, while offering the rich a hefty tax break and slashing benefits the poor.
In Asia Pacific equities, Sydney’s S&P/ASX 200 has opened lower by 0.1 per cent, while in Tokyo futures tip the Topix index to open 0.2 per cent higher and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index is set to climb 0.1 per cent when trading begins.
Corporate earnings reports out today include CIFI Group, MMG and Aboitiz Equity Ventures.
