The exploratory UK sax and vibes quartet’s third release for Naim resonates with strong moods, tight-knit rhythms and third stream experimentation – six of the 13 compositions feature the Benyounes String Quartet.
Alto saxophonist Nathaniel Facey’s trenchant tone and angular lines are matched by strident strings, Lewis Wright’s vibes shimmer and ping and the rhythm section swings and clatters at will. But there are lyrical passages and tender moments, foot-tapping grooves and a contemporary string quartet in full flow, impressively justifying a double CD release.
