Brian Lynch: Conclave Vol 2

A blend of mainstream jazz and authentic Latin pulse

Conclave Vol 2

(Criss Cross)

As the sleeve notes explain, the trumpeter’s blending of the jazz mainstream with an authentic latin pulse can be a little tricky. Forms are complex, and even well established harmonic structures have to fit the rhythmic shapes of Latin music – classics by Miles Davis and Kenny Dorham are clever makeovers.

Lynch and his band sail through it all, delivering tight themes and thoughtful solos. Lynch has a lovely tone, saxophonist Yosvany Terry adds colour and drums and percussion combine for a springy pulse.
