“Life is cruel and too short,” sings MØ, aka Karen Marie Ørsted.
The observation begs an obvious question: should we spend a portion of our joyless existence listening to the Copenhagen singer’s debut?
It doesn’t live up to the buzz (“the Danish Grimes”) built by her vibrant collaboration with the producer Diplo, “XXX 88”; but Ørsted’s vocals are mellifluous, like a livelier Lana Del Rey, and her music, mid-tempo electropop with the odd haunting moment, passes by pleasantly enough: an innocuous way of whiling away time.
