What a shock.

Taser International — the maker of stun-gun technology — said on Wednesday that it is changing its name to Axon.

The company said in a release that the name change is designed to signify that its product portfolio has expanded since its inception past the non-lethal weaponry with which it has become synonymous to include a “much wider range of technologies” including connected devices and software applications. Along with the new name, it is also planning to offer free body cameras to all US police officers, it said.

The Nasdaq-listed company will see its ticker change over from TASR to AAXN at the start of trading on Thursday.
