North Korea has fired a projectile into the Sea of Japan, according to official media.
“North Korea fired a projectile into the East Sea from a site in the vicinity of Sinpo, South Hamgeyong Province, this morning”, South Korea’s official Yonhap News Agency quoted the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff as saying.
The agency also said the “exact type of the projectile was not immediately confirmed”. In March North Korea fired four ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan in a demonstration of the continued advancement of its weapons programme.
The launch comes ahead of a two-day summit between US President Donald Trump and China’s President Xi Jinping in the US.
