How the design influence of ancient Egypt endures in contemporary interiors

A new exhibition at the Ashmolean museum in Oxford looks at how Egyptmania took off following the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922. The legacy of ancient Egypt can be seen in the geometric lines, chevron patterns and rectilinear flourishes of the 1920s and 1930s Art Deco movement, influences which continue to inspire designers today, as these images show.
