Dracula, Various venues
Fangs may not be what they used to be, but two stagings based on Bram Stoker’s jolly guide to Transylvania and Whitby are making the rounds as autumn approaches. The Mark Bruce Company tours its highly commended production from the end of September until early December, opening at the Merlin Theatre, Frome on September 26 and 27 (01373 465949), and moving thence (we suppose under cover of darkness) to the Bristol Old Vic (01179 787 877), and onwards.

Dancer in the Fast Lane, Oberon Books, £14.99
For admirers of dazzling Royal Ballet dancer Steven McRae, there comes photographic testimony to his artistry. The book is a record of McRae’s performing life during the past year, astutely captured by a Royal Ballet colleague, Andrej Uspenski, a gifted photographer: on stage, from the wings, in rehearsal. The bright images of McRae’s interpretations are exactly caught.
