Tourism officials find it difficult to contain their excitement about the potential benefit that could accrue to Scotland from Brave, a forthcoming Disney/Pixar computer-animated, 3D film set in the Highlands, writes Andrew Bolger.
The film, due for release in the UK next August, features mountainous landscapes, castles and clans with the voices of actors such as Billy Connolly, Robbie Coltrane and Emma Thompson.
Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, said: “This movie will be just amazing. If we had written this thing ourselves, it could not have fitted any better. They have spent hundreds of millions of dollars on this thing – it’s great.”
Mr Cantlay said Brave would be launched in 72 countries, offering a fantastic marketing opportunity for Scottish tourism. “They are there for the taking, in terms of making the link,” he said. “The trick is to ensure we are bullish enough to seize the opportunities and not be turning around in 2015 and 2016 and saying: ‘You know – we should have made more of that’.”
