“We’re not young any more,” You Me At Six’s Josh Franceschi sings at the start of Cavalier Youth, a 23-year-old veteran with four albums of slick pop-punk under his belt. The latest from the Surrey rockers is every bit the journeyman effort you’d expect from old heads on young shoulders. Guitars chug away formulaically and songs peddle clichéd sentiments: “Forgive and Forget”, “Win Some, Lose Some” – it’s a shock to find it doesn’t end with one called “It’s Not Over Until It’s Over”. Cavalier Youth could not be more misnamed.
