Fininvest, the holding company behind Silvio Berlusconi’s media empire, said in a statement it had entered exclusive talks for an undisclosed period with Chinese investors about the sale of a stake in AC Milan.

The talks with the unnamed Chinese investors are the latest sign Mr Berlusconi is considering selling a stake in the loss making club. Previous talks with potential buyers in Asia, where European football has a growing audience, fell apart over issues with governance, price and Mr Berlusconi equivocating about a sale, say bankers, reports Rachel Sanderson in Milan.

Mr Berlusconi earlier this month in a statement to press said he intended to leave the club in Italian hands if and when he decided to sell.
