Cayamo Sessions At Sea

Cruise ship entertainment once meant perma-tanned smoothies belting out Sinatra. Now all manner of musical vessels sail the oceans, from hard rock to opera-themed voyages.

A country music cruise is the spur for Nashville musician Buddy Miller’s Cayamo album. Recorded on board the boat, in an impromptu studio set up in a bowling alley, it is an informal set of songs featuring Miller’s fellow cruise ship performers.

Kacey Musgraves joins for a swinging version of Buck Owens’ 1963 hit “Love’s Gonna Live Here”, Richard Thompson lends a transatlantic hand to the Hank Williams weepie “Wedding Bells” and Shawn Colvin takes an aching tour through The Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses”. Guided by Miller’s fluent guitar-playing, the album glides along without fuss, untroubled by rough seas.
